Bashir declared winner of Sudan election

Omer Al Bashir has won the presidential election held in Sudan from April 11 to 15, the nation's top elections official announced today. Abel Alier, head of the National Elections Commission, said that Bashir won with 68 percent of the vote. Bahir's rival Yasir Arman, who withdrew from the race in the North, nonetheless won 21.7% of the vote, largely from supporters in South Sudan. Salva Kiir is the winner of the contest for the presidency of South Sudan, with 93% of the vote.
