A quarrel in Ariba valley, southeast of Zalingei, Central Darfur, left one person killed on Friday, 12 October, sources told Radio Dabanga.
According to witnesses, the death of this citizen raised tensions inside Zalingei city and surrounding camps. They explained that relatives of the dead man gathered a group of armed people to revenge his death.
The armed men entered Zalingei on horses and camels and fired in the air in the neighborhoods of El-Krani, Adjebelei and around the Khamze Dageig camp.
Onlookers said that, in addition, the armed group of people beat farmers and expelled them from their properties.
The men also kidnapped two unidentified civilians, and by Friday evening it was still not clear whether they had been released, witnesses reported.
Sources said that reinforcement from the government had been sent to the area to prevent the fighting from escalating and that a brigadier was shot in the shoulder amid the conflicts.
UNAMID and the native administration asked that people remain calm so that they can properly address this situation.
