Abdullah Al Warath Al Amin, one of the senior traders in Nyala, admitted that he had lost five million pounds in an armed robbery. The attack took place at his shop adjacent to the Great Mosque in the city center.

The robbers took the money at gunpoint after shooting at a safe with a silenced pistol. A source told Radio Dabanga that a group of nine masked gunmen using a Land Cruiser took the weapons of two guards who were with the merchant.

This is most shocking and unfortunate since I know Mr Abdullah Warith well. He is a most helpful man and always willing to help anyone in need.
Such incidents can be reduced if transactions are made by cheques instead of handling cash. I used to be amazed at how all businesses handle huge piles of cash for their day-to-day transactions in Sudan.
