Five dead, 10 wounded in fighting within Gimr tribe in South Darfur

Five people were killed and ten others wounded in renewed clashes between members of the Gimr tribe in Garli area of Katila Locality in South Darfur Locality on Tuesday. Sources reported that an armed group came from southwest of the area Khor Shmam, riding camels and horses and two Land Cruisers. They launched an attack on the citizens of Garli at about eight o'clock Tuesday morning.

The five men killed in the attack were: Bashar Al Nur, Ahmed Issa Al Nur, Ismail Abdullah Ahmed, Tijani Mohamed Awad, Khalil Mohamed Hassan.

In late August, two sections of the tribe, the northern and southern Gimr, had fought resulting in nine deaths. This fighting may be related to that ongoing feud.

Sources said that the clashes this week affected the areas of Um Tikto and Kereinek near the Hazara area. The president of the association of pastoralists in Katila Locality, Tayeb Abdel Rahman, said the attack was launched by a group of more than 300 people using heavy weapons. He urged state authorities to intervene and said that the clashes between the two sides have been going on since last Sunday.
