Eyewitnesses accused gunmen of killing the chief of the police station in Tanjeke, Sirba locality, West Darfur, on Tuesday 18 September. The reason for the attack is unknown.
The gunmen, believed to belong to a pro-government militia, opened fire against Seargent Yahya Sharif Khatir on 12pm killing him immediately, witnesses reported.
They said Khatir was traveling alone by horse from Tanjeke to a nearby camp, Kandebe, when the attack happened.
The perpetrators took Khatir's Kalashnikov, his horse and other personal belongings and fled, onlookers told Radio Dabanga. They recounted that a group of people, including residents and the police, tried chasing the perpetrators without success.
