Fresh clashes erupt between Gimr clans in Darfur, 9 killed

Witnesses said the clashes came after an officer of one of the sections of the tribe tried to farm on land claimed by the other, causing scuffles which turned into wider clashes between the northern and southern Gimr, killing nine and injuring six. The State of South Darfur announced that it deployed more than 100 soldier equipped to contain the fighting and pursue those who caused the incident to bring them to justice.
A commission of inquiry is expected to look into the events. Strife within the Gimr tribe has broken into violence several times in the last year.
