Ahmed Ali Abdulgadir, the locality commissioner from El Geneina, West Darfur, told Radio Dabanga that seven people drowned in the past two weeks due to torrential rains. Several other people were harmed.
The commissioner said that since the beginning of the rainy season the area saw heavy storms that caused the Kaja Valley to flood. In addition to the seven deaths by drowning, 350 houses were destroyed and several people were harmed.
Abdulgadir appeals to local organizations and other institutions working with disaster relief to implement the locality's counter flood and landslides' plan.
