Court Sudan upholds death sentence against 6 Darfur rebels

The Supreme Court of Sudan upheld the death sentence imposed on six members from the Justice and Equality Movement on Monday, a source told Radio Dabanga. A lower court sentenced them to death by hanging last year.

The charges included terrorism, illegally carrying arms and murder. The six men who received the death sentence include the vice president of the movement Ibrahim Al Math, commander Ibrahim Abdallah Safi Al Nour, commander Mohammed Daoud Khamis, commander Yahiya Abbaker Musa, Gibriel Tiya and Ahmed Al Gazuli Izz Al Arab.

The spokesman of the movement, Gabriel Adam Bilal, said in a statement to Radio Dabanga “The death sentence of the six Prisoners of War constitutes a violation of international humanitarian law. It is a political sentence and unjust.”
