On the Scale

Updated 11 January 2011

On the Scale, or in Arabic, Fi al Mizan, is a radio programme co-produced by Radio Dabanga and IWPR. The shows are produced in Darfur Arabic, Fur, Zaghawa and Masalit. You can find the program in the archive below. Simply click on the Audio link to hear your chosen episode.

‘Fi al Mizan’ (On the Scale) gives balanced news about local and international issues that concerns the local population. “We will answer questions local Darfurians have concerning their rights and duties. It is about whether they can return to their homeland after forced displacement. Some people want them to return, while others categorically refuse due to insecurity. We try to provide unbiased information”, according to one of the producers, lawyer Assadiq Musa.

The editor, Tajeldin Abdalla Musa, emphasizes the responsibility Radio Dabanga feels for providing accurate and trusted information. “Everyone in Darfur knows that we are not a government radio and neither are we an opposition radio. We are collecting and providing items for all parties. So when people are arrested based on the emergency laws, we show the listeners both sides of the story. This programme will offer the audience a voice they never had before and give them the opportunity to be involved in the process of justice and quest for it”.
